La presente investigación se llevó a cabo en la región de la vertiente del Pacífico de Guatemala, con el propósito de evaluar la factibilidad técnica y económica del aprovechamiento de las aguas fluviales como fuente de energía para plantas de bombeo, impulsadas por motores hidráulicos, con fines de riego. El estudio empleó un enfoque técnico-analítico orientado a proponer soluciones a los altos costos de riego mediante motores de combustión interna y a la falta de infraestructura pública para pequeños sistemas de riego. Los resultados demostraron que, ante la imposibilidad de implementar sistemas por gravedad debido a la ausencia de una ley de aguas y a conflictos por servidumbres, el uso de energía hidráulica representa una alternativa viable para suplir las necesidades de riego en tierras de la Costa Sur, especialmente en fincas privadas con potencial productivo. |
